We're evolving. Mercer is now part of the new, expanded Marsh brand

Overview

The UK is facing a worsening homelessness crisis. English councils now spend £2.8bn annually on temporary accommodation with over 134,000 households, including 176,000 children, currently displaced. Demand is outpacing both public funding and conventional housing supply, and the gap is growing.

Social investment has a proven role to play. Existing models have already saved £140m in taxpayer funds and kept thousands of families out of temporary accommodation. We are also seeing policy headwinds in this area with the UK Government’s National Plan to End Homelessness being explicit about partnering with both social impact and institutional investors.

This webinar brings together leading voices from Mercer, Better Society Capital, and Social and Sustainable Capital to examine the evidence, explore the current investment landscape, and discuss what it would take to bring more institutional and philanthropic capital into this space.

We will cover:

  • What the evidence tells us about social investment's impact and financial performance in homelessness
  • The scale of the funding gap and where capital is most needed
  • Current investment models and key characteristics
  • The barriers to allocation and how to address them

If you are considering how your capital can contribute to one of the UK's most pressing social challenges, this webinar is for you.
