Slovakia caps retirement age at 64 for men, childless women
Slovakia’s retirement age will be capped at 64 for men and childless women under a change (Slovak) to the constitution that will take effect on 1 Jul 2019. For women with children, the retirement age will be reduced accordingly:
- One child – six months
- Two children – one year
- Three or more children – 1.5 years
The current retirement age is 62.5, subject to a few exceptions, and will increase by two months in 2020. An independent budgetary council reportedly has criticized the introduction of the retirement age cap, claiming it will jeopardize public finance sustainability.
