An increased “local qualifying salary” paid to Singaporean workers who can be counted toward companies’ quotas for hiring foreigners will increase from July 2019, the labor minister has announced. The local qualifying monthly salary will increase by SGD $100 to $1,300. The quota — or “dependency ratio ceiling” — for foreign workers employed in the services sector will be reduced from January 2020 to 38% (down from 40%) with a further reduction to 35% scheduled to take effect in January 2021.
