Gen AI: The disruption guide for leaders

Generative AI can serve as a transformative force for both leaders and employees, enhancing productivity, and enriching the employee experience.

Following years of weak output growth and persistent skills shortages, unemployment remains low and hours worked by Australians had the highest increase ever recorded. However, this also includes some challenges, as the high labour participation rate suggests, the scope for households to improve their bottom lines by working more hours is narrowing. To increase our living standards, we need sustainable wage growth. This can only come through increased productivity. In this context it is no surprise that increasing productivity is the number one driver of business transformation plans in 2024.

As organisations pivot towards innovation as a catalyst for growth, executives are placing their bets on AI. CEOs expect AI to be a top growth driver, with 61% of companies reporting increased productivity from using generative AI.

However, adopting AI is no easy feat and leaders are concerned about how technology is being rolled out within their organisations: 70% of Australian executives report that their organisation is not doing enough to inspire workers to adopt new technologies and nearly three in five worry that the rapid pace of tech innovation is surpassing their organisation’s ability to reskill and redeploy their workforce.

So, where should leaders begin? The answer lies in proactive engagement with AI. Leaders must take the initiative in Gen AI adoption, committing to learn alongside their teams and fostering environments where employees can experiment with AI tools without fear of failure.

This paper delves into how generative AI can serve as a transformative force for both leaders and employees, enhancing productivity, and enriching the employee experience.
