About the ratings process

To help asset owners navigate the investable universe, we analyse and rate asset managers and strategies as an A, B, C, or R; with A being the strongest that we believe has an above average prospect to outperform.

In addition to the overall strategy, we review the manager's operational risk and portfolio management, their focus and integration of environment, society and governance (ESG) factors and their overall track record. Each strategy is reviewed based on four factors:

  • Idea generation: An asset manager's ability to generate value-add investment ideas
  • Portfolio construction: Translation of investment ideas into portfolio allocation
  • Implementation: Value-add lost in the form of transaction and opportunity costs
  • Business management: Solid structure and management of investment processes
