Mercer appoints Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, Pacific

Mercer has today announced the appointment of Norlena Brouwer in the role of Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, Pacific. Ms Brouwer, who commences in February 2023, will oversee Mercer’s risk and compliance function and framework in the Pacific region, enabling the firm to deliver its strategic priorities in a safe and sound way for the benefit of clients, members and the business.

With a career spanning more than 15 years, Ms Brouwer brings deep expertise to Mercer having held a range of risk and compliance roles in the financial services sector, including superannuation and banking. She joins Mercer from Hostplus where she various risk and compliance roles since 2014, most recently as the fund’s Group Executive Risk and Compliance.

Mercer’s President, Pacific region and CEO, Australia, David Bryant said Ms Brouwer’s appointment would serve to strengthen Mercer’s ongoing commitment to best practice risk and compliance management, particularly as the firm enters the next phase of growth.

“The changing regulatory environment, and indeed the changing nature of our industry, only highlights the increasing importance of robust risk and compliance practices,” Mr Bryant said.

“Norlena has a strong track record in risk management, which will be invaluable to our business. This is even more important as we progress our strategic growth agenda; first and foremost being the transition of BT Super into the Mercer Super Trust in early 2023, which will see us servicing over 850,000 members. We are delighted Norlena will be joining us to lead our Pacific risk and compliance team,” he said.

Ruby Yadav, who formerly held the role of Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, has moved into Mercer’s superannuation services business as Superannuation Services Leader.
