Cathy Hales
Career
Cathy is an experienced business leader with a track record of delivering strong growth and performance outcomes in businesses across Australia, Europe and the US. Throughout her career, Cathy has been responsible for setting product, communications and business strategy, implementing leadership and culture renewal and fostering innovation while overseeing complex compliance and risk management programs and operational effectiveness.
Prior to joining Mercer, Cathy led Fidante Partners (part of ASX-listed Challenger Limited) to become Australia’s fastest growing multi-boutique investment platform, growing from A$20bn to more than A$60bn in client assets under management. In this role and through board and advisory positions across the industry, Cathy has provided seasoned counsel to founder CEOs on managing growth and sustainability; product innovation; client engagement; people and culture strategy including founder succession in Australia, the US and UK.
Cathy’s earlier career included a focus on product development and marketing, leading these functions for Deutsche Asset Management’s US$50 billion global real estate and infrastructure platform (RREEF), including five years based in New York. This followed senior product and marketing roles with Deutsche Asset Management in Sydney, Macquarie, Colonial First State (Sydney & London) and BT Funds Management (Sydney & Tokyo).
With a strategic mindset, commercial discipline and deep understanding of the financial services ecosystem, Cathy leads businesses and engages with varied stakeholders to deliver sustainable business growth.
Cathy holds a Bachelor of Business (Economics) – Honours (first class) from the Queensland University of Technology. She is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia.
