Geoff Mulgan, CBE, is the former Chief Executive of Nesta, the UK's innovation foundation.
Between 1997 and 2004 Geoff had roles in the UK government, including director of the Government's Strategy Unit and head of policy in the Prime Minister's office. He has been a visiting professor at LSE, UCL and Melbourne University, senior visiting scholar at Harvard University, a regular lecturer at the China Executive Leadership Academy and president of the Innovation Design Department at the Italian University of Design. He became a World Economic Forum Schwab Fellow in September 2019.
Geoff advises many governments around the world on issues of strategy, innovation and policy. He is the co-founder of a number of organisations, including Demos, Action for Happiness, the Social Innovation Exchange and Uprising. His books have been translated into many languages and include Big Mind: How collective intelligence can change our world’ (Princeton); The Art of Public Strategy (Oxford University Press) and Good and Bad Power (Penguin). His latest book Social Innovation: How societies find the power to change’ (Policy Press) was published in November 2019.

Director of Analytics Research & Tools, Growth Markets
Ben is a principal in Mercer’s Wealth business, based in Singapore, responsible for managing the Analytics Research and Tools (ART) business for the growth markets region. This involves the sales, support and development of a range of investment tools, publications and systems used both internally and externally. He is also responsible for producing specialist quantitative research, including the production of an Asian dynamic asset allocation service.
Ben was previously at Schroders in the UK. As part of the multi-manager team, he was involved in all aspects of fund selection and asset allocation. He researched and met with fund managers for potential inclusion in the portfolio and also conducted qualitative and quantitative research as well as style and risk analysis on the funds in the portfolio.
Prior to Schroders, Ben worked for Mercer in the UK. He was a member of the Technical Products and Services Team, where he conducted quantitative research, worked on the development of portfolio style risk analysis, contributed to the production of a European dynamic asset allocation service and was a member of the Hedge Fund Specialist Research Team.
Ben is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute. He has also completed the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst exams, the Securities Institute Diploma and the Investment Management Certificate in the UK. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in economics from Royal Holloway, University of London.
Asset Class Specialist, Alternatives
Charles has been in the financial services industry since 2006, focusing on private equity since 2009. He joined Altius Associates in 2014, which was acquired by Pavilion Financial Corporation in 2016 and merged with LP Capital Advisors to become Pavilion Alternatives Group. He is now with Mercer Alternatives following Mercer’s acquisition of Pavilion Alternatives Group in late 2018. Charles is responsible for sourcing, evaluating and monitoring private equity and private debt funds in Asia.
Previously, Charles worked as an associate for Capital Dynamics, where he evaluated private market fund investment opportunities in Asia-Pacific and monitored existing fund portfolios for fund-of-funds clients. Prior to that, he was Assistant Vice President at Alternative Investment Capital, where he reviewed and analysed prospective private equity and venture capital fund investment opportunities in Asia-Pacific. Charles also worked at Taishin International Bank and Ernst & Young, both in Taiwan, where he engaged in corporate banking and auditing, respectively.
Charles holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from National Taiwan University. He also received an MBA in international business from International University of Japan.
Chee Loong Chong
Wealth Business Leader, Singapore
Chee Loong is a principal consultant and heads the Wealth business in Singapore at Mercer. He has more than 20 years of professional experience in the financial/investment industry, spanning financial supervision, investment management and investment consultancy.
Prior to joining Mercer, he was an investment consultant with Cambridge Associates, where he worked with a range of institutional investors, including universities and private clients, to develop investment strategy, implement portfolios and serve as an advisor on construction and oversight of their hedge fund portfolios.
Chee Loong started his career with the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) in 1995, first as a financial regulator, primarily responsible for formulating policies regulating the securities and financial advisory industries. He subsequently held the position of Lead Portfolio Manager (Foreign Exchange) with MAS, where his core responsibility was the investment management of Singapore’s official foreign reserves. After leaving MAS in 2008, Chee Loong joined Pacific Asset Management Singapore as an investment manager, responsible for managing portfolios through FX strategies and fixed income.
Chee Loong holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (with first-class honours) from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore and is a CFA® charterholder.
Global Head of Investment Research
Deb is a senior partner in Mercer’s Wealth business. In her role as Global Head of Investment Research, which includes responsibility for manager research and strategic research, Deb manages a group of more than 100 asset-class specialists across alternatives, fixed income, equities and real estate. She also oversees the teams responsible for strategic asset allocation, dynamic asset allocation, strategic research and responsible investing. These teams work together to support Mercer’s full range of client solutions, from advisory to fiduciary management. Deb is based in London, UK.
Deb was previously the Global Leader of Mercer’s Equity Boutique, specializing in researching global equity and global emerging market equity managers. Deb chairs Mercer’s Global Policy Committee and is a member of the Mainstream Assets Global Investment Committee.
Deb joined Mercer in November 2005 from Watson Wyatt, where she was a senior investment consultant advising a range of clients and researching Asian and emerging market equity managers. Prior to this, Deb was a fund manager for 20 years, most recently working for Friends Ivory & Sime as Head of Equities.
Deb holds a bachelor’s degree (with honours) in business studies from the University of Plymouth in the UK and is an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK. Deb received the 2016 Distinguished Woman Investment Professional of the Year award.
Director of Strategic Research, Growth Markets
Simon is Mercer’s Growth Markets Director of Strategic Research, based in Singapore. He also evaluates investment strategies for the Equity Boutique and the Diversifying Alternatives Boutique. Additionally, Simon has performed advisory engagements with a range of client types across a number of investment-related issues. He is a member of Mercer’s Global Strategic Research Committee and the Strategic Research Group and chairs the Growth Markets Strategic Research Group.
Having first joined Mercer in 2010, Simon re-joined the firm in 2017 after a period away from Mercer as Head of Investment Solutions in Asia for Franklin Templeton Investments. Prior to joining Mercer in 2010, Simon was Managing Director of the Singapore office of a Swiss-headquartered private equity firm. Prior to that, he co-founded AsiaSource Capital, a boutique investment firm based in Singapore and New York, where he managed a fund-of-hedge-funds.
Earlier in his career, Simon worked in Hong Kong as a sell-side equity analyst at Cazenove, specialising in regional small- and mid-cap equities. Simon began his career as a global equity analyst at Prudential M&G in London, UK, and later transferred to Hong Kong with Prudential as an investment manager focused primarily on Asian equities.
Global Leader, Equity Boutique
Rich is a partner in Mercer’s Wealth business. In his role as Global Leader of the Equity Boutique, Rich is responsible for equity manager research globally, focused on researching managers across a range of equity universes and geographies. He is based in London, UK.
Rich joined Mercer in March 2008 with seven years of experience, including his time at Fidelity International, where he was a manager on the Competitor and Fund Analysis Team, providing quantitative fund analysis on internal and external equity funds. He also spent four years at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (now BlackRock) as Assistant Vice President of the Information Research Team working on a range of quantitative-based research projects across a number of asset classes.
Rich holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the University of Southampton in the UK. He is a CFA® charterholder and holds the Certified Investment Analyst℠ designation from the Investment Management Consultants.
Investment Operations Consultant
Igor joined as a senior consultant with the Mercer Sentinel Group in Mercer’s Investment Consulting practice, based in Singapore. He consults for central banks, sovereign wealth funds, family offices, governmental agencies, investment managers and family offices on governance, organisational structure, operational risk management best practice, custody and asset transitions. Igor is responsible for leading operational due diligence assessments on investment managers across all asset classes in Asia.
Before joining Mercer, he was a senior manager with PwC’s Financial Services practice, where he was responsible for servicing organisations in the asset management industry in Singapore, Hong Kong, Cayman and Luxembourg. Igor has 11 years of experience, three of which he spent with PwC Luxembourg covering assignments such as the audit of fund management companies, traditional funds, hedge funds and private equities. In addition to statutory audit, he was also involved in the operational and regulatory review of licensed fund management companies.
Igor was the Deputy Client Segment Leader for Hedge Funds at PwC Singapore.
Igor received his MBA from the Hof University of Applied Science in Germany. He is a qualified accountant of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
People Science, Employee Experience Solutions, International
Lewis is a partner and Business Leader for Mercer’s Employee Experience practice in the International region. Voted a Top 101 Global Employee Engagement Influencer, he is a regular contributor to publications such as the Harvard Business Review and Talent Quarterly and a speaker in the areas of people science, HR data, employee engagement and leadership.
In his commercial work, Lewis leads a team of social scientists, engineers and consultants in helping clients and customers implement data-driven talent, leadership and employee engagement programmes to improve organisational performance.
Lewis has supported the development of several organisation and HR capabilities initiatives, including taking a lead role in the development of Singapore’s Skills Framework for Human Resource. He has extensive expertise in making HR programmes relevant for C-level executives in global companies as well as helping senior leadership teams to unlock effectiveness.
Lewis is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) as an occupational psychologist; he graduated from the University of Nottingham in the UK with a master’s degree in occupational psychology and a first-class bachelor’s degree (with honours) in psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Lewis is also qualified by the BPS to use both ability tests and personality questionnaires to assess talent.
Wen Ting Geok
Asset Class Specialist, Alternatives
Wen Ting has been in the financial services industry since 2008, focusing on private equity since 2012. Prior to that, she was a senior associate at SAC Capital, where she was involved in corporate finance work, such as IPOs and M&A. Wen Ting started her career at PricewaterhouseCoopers as an auditor.
Wen Ting holds a Master of Science in accounting and finance from the London School of Economics in the UK and a Bachelor of Accountancy from Nanyang Business School, Nanyang Technological University in Singapore.
Global Leader, Sovereign Funds
Garry initially joined Mercer in New Zealand in September 1992 after spending seven years with another consulting firm. Prior to his transfer to Singapore in February 2000, Garry had been responsible for managing Mercer’s Investment Consulting practice in New Zealand. In October 2007, Garry relocated to Shanghai to oversee the establishment and development of Mercer’s Investment Consulting practice in China. Garry returned to Singapore in August 2009.
Since his move to Asia, Garry has consulted for several major clients, including the national social security funds, central banks and national reserve investment agencies of many Asian countries. In April 2008, in recognition of his client focus, Garry became the Regional Director for Sovereign Funds, a newly created role to help Mercer fill an increasing need to provide innovative investment solutions to large funds, particularly those in emerging capital markets.
In January 2013, Garry was appointed to the role of Growth Markets Director of Strategic Research. Garry also chairs the group that contributes to Mercer’s capital markets research and assumptions globally and is a member of the Global Policy and Global Strategic Research Committees within Mercer’s Wealth business charged with bringing Mercer’s best ideas to clients.
Garry is an Associate Member of the CFA Institute. He is also an actuary. He received his bachelor’s degree in mathematics and statistics from the University of Canterbury in New Zealand.
Guhan Yap Kannan
Guhan is a senior investment consultant in Mercer’s Wealth business, based in Singapore, with 20 years of experience in actuarial and investment consulting.
Guhan first joined Mercer in 2001 and started off as a retirement actuary working on private-sector US pension and post-retirement plans. In this role, he gained experience with valuations, benefit calculations and other special projects. Beginning in 2007, Guhan joined Mercer’s Financial Strategy Group, which specialises in helping firms better manage pension plan risk within the client’s overall business strategy. He focused on asset liability modelling stochastic analysis, which provides a view of various funding, investment and plan design options as well as their impact, allowing clients to make more informed risk management decisions. Guhan joined the Singapore office in 2019, hoping to bring his actuarial, risk management and investment experience to similar client needs in the region.
Guhan is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He is currently pursuing the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in actuarial science (summa cum laude) from Georgia State University.
Global Chief Investment Officer, Delegated Solutions
Hooman is the Global Chief Investment Officer for Mercer’s Delegated Solutions practice. He leads a team of investment professionals responsible for developing and implementing all aspects of the fiduciary investment process, including investment strategy, asset allocation and de-risking, fund manager selection, monitoring, and blending as well as portfolio implementation.
Hooman has been in his current role since 2017, having previously been the European CIO for Mercer’s Delegated Solutions practice since 2006, when he joined Mercer to help set up this practice in Europe. Prior to that, he was Chief Investment Officer at one of Ireland’s largest financial services companies, whose investment division he joined in 1990. He has held various investment roles, including portfolio manager and Head of Quantitative Investments, prior to becoming CIO.
Hooman graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1986 with a degree (with honours) in microelectronics engineering. He then worked in the research and development laboratories of Philips in Eindhoven, Netherlands. He left Philips in 1989 to complete an MBA (with honours) in 1990 at Trinity College Dublin. Hooman also holds a Master of Science (with honours) from Dublin City University in investments and treasury management, which he earned in 1993. He has also lectured on investment management subjects in that programme.
Chin Yee Koh
Senior Investment Consultant
Chin Yee joined the Mercer Investment Consulting team, based in Singapore, in October 2012. She is actively involved in asset liability management studies, investment manager searches, mutual fund selection, asset allocation studies and other investment-related activities. These include advising government entities and wealth management clients in Singapore and in the region on investment strategy, manager/fund selection, regulatory reviews and performance/manager monitoring. Chin Yee is also part of Mercer’s Capital Markets Team, supporting primarily the Asia offices. Her responsibilities include generating capital markets forecasts and Monte Carlo simulations using a stochastic forward-looking model.
Chin Yee graduated in 2012 from Heriot-Watt University in the UK with a Bachelor of Science in actuarial science (with first-class honours). With 10 actuarial examination papers completed, she is in the midst of qualifying as an actuary with the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
Asset Class Specialist, Equity Boutique
Mark is a senior associate in Mercer’s Equity Boutique, responsible for researching strategies across Asia. Additionally, he undertakes research across various asset classes as part of the Mercer Fund Watch initiative. He is based in Hong Kong and joined Mercer in May 2018.
Prior to joining Mercer, Mark spent 12 years in managed fund research at Morningstar, where he worked in Sydney, London and, most recently, Hong Kong. During his time at Morningstar, he was responsible for sourcing, selecting and monitoring strategies across all major asset classes as well as alternatives.
Within the Manager Research Team at Morningstar, he was the lead specialist for Global Listed Real Estate and Asian Equities. Prior to Morningstar, Mark spent seven years working with asset managers in both Sydney and London in various roles, covering areas such as investment writing, client reporting and business development.
Mark has a Bachelor of Arts in economics and politics from the University of New South Wales in Australia and a Postgraduate Diploma in applied finance and investment from the Securities Institute of Australia.
Global Alternatives Leader
Raelan is Global Alternatives Leader at Mercer Alternatives, based in Sacramento, California, in the US. Raelan joined Pavilion Alternatives Group in 2005, which was acquired by Mercer in 2018.
Raelan manages and oversees Mercer’s Alternatives practices, encompassing strategic research, trusted advice and delegated solutions for institutional investors globally. She also leads the global Private Debt Investment Team and serves as the lead consultant for several clients in North America, advising on others globally.
She has been in the financial services industry since 1998, focusing on private equity and private markets since 2005. Previously, Raelan was located in New York City, where she worked at DoubleClick, a division of Google, and focused on developing new relationships with financial institutions. Prior to that, she was a consultant in American Express’s Strategic Technology Relationships Advisory Group, which worked directly with the firm’s C-level executives and all divisions of the firm and its top technology partners.
Raelan started her career at Goldman Sachs in the finance and wealth management divisions, including assignments in Tokyo and Hong Kong.
Raelan received a Bachelor of Arts in French language and literature from the University of Virginia in the US. She is fluent in French.
Jia Yin Lee
Jia Yin is a consultant in Mercer’s Wealth business, based in Singapore. Jia Yin is involved in applying Mercer’s investment capabilities to institutional investors and wealth management firms. Her experience includes developing investment strategies, performing investment manager searches and constructing strategic asset allocations. She has also provided advice to wealth management clients on model portfolio construction, the development of client risk profiling and product risk classification.
Jia Yin graduated with a Master of Management in finance from the University of Melbourne in Australia and a Bachelor of Business from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, where she majored in Actuarial Studies. She is a CFA® charterholder.
Wealth Business Leader, Asia
Janet is the Asia Wealth Business Leader at Mercer. In her role, she leads and drives business strategy in addition to managing the team across Asia.
Janet has vast experience working with institutional clients (sovereigns, pension, insurance, corporate and wealth management). Her experience also spans a wide range of investment services (asset liability review and strategy, portfolio construction, manager review, selection and monitoring, investment governance and transformation, discretionary management, member communication and education, and related tool developments) and asset classes (public equities and fixed income, private equities, illiquid credit, real estate and infrastructure).
Before joining Mercer, Janet was the Director of Investments, Greater China, at Willis Towers Watson, where she was also a core member of the Asia leadership team.
Janet is the Chair of the Executive Committee, a member of the Members Communication Subcommittee and a member of the Business Strategy Subcommittee of the Hong Kong Retirement Schemes Association (HKRSA). She has been a delegate to and a supporter of the annual Cross Straits Pension Forum, of which the HKRSA has been a key organizer for the past eight years. Janet is also a Management Committee member, a member of the Research and Development Subcommittee of the Taiwan Pension Fund Association and an Advisory Committee member of the FTSE Taiwan Index Committee.
Janet graduated with a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from The University of Hong Kong. She is a CFA® charterholder.
Senior Responsible Investment Specialist
Jillian is a principal with Mercer’s Responsible Investment Team, advising super funds and other institutional investors on how to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors, sustainability trends, climate change and stewardship within investment processes.
In addition, Jillian contributes to new research and integrating responsible investment within Mercer globally, including delegated solutions. She co-authored Mercer’s Investing in a Time of Climate Change report (2015) and The Sequel (2019). Jillian has also presented and written about water and other sustainability issues and helped many boards to establish the governance required to balance risk, return and reputation.
Jillian has more than 20 years of financial services experience. She began at Mercer in 2004, transitioning to Responsible Investment in 2011, including four years in the London office. Prior to Mercer, Jillian spent five years at an Australian multi-manager, after beginning her career in teaching.
Jillian holds a Master of Arts in development studies, a Bachelor of Arts, a Graduate Diploma in applied finance and investment, and a Diploma of Education from the University of Newcastle and the University of New South Wales.
Senior Portfolio Manager
Cameron is a senior portfolio manager based in Mercer’s Tokyo office. His primary responsibilities are managing multi-asset portfolios and customised solutions for Japanese and Korean clients. Cameron is also the Head of Mainstream Investments for the Japanese Delegated Solutions practice and is an investment consultant for clients located in US territories in the Western Pacific.
Prior to relocating to Tokyo in July 2016, Cameron was a senior associate with the Pacific Investment Management Team, based in Melbourne. His primary responsibilities were asset allocation and providing support on fixed income and alternative investment portfolios.
Cameron joined Mercer in June 2013 from the Australian Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, where he was responsible for providing high-level advice to the prime minister on financial sector and foreign investment policy issues as well as analysing key financial market developments. Prior to this, Cameron held responsibilities for policy matters under consideration at the G20 and global macroeconomic analysis. Cameron was previously with the Department of Finance, where he worked on the Australian budget.
Cameron holds a Master of Financial Management, a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Asian Studies from the Australian National University. He is also a CFA® charterholder.
Wealth Business Leader, Hong Kong
Adeline is Mercer’s Head of Advisory, leading the consulting team in serving clients on asset and liability matters. She is responsible for client delivery and growing the technical capabilities of the team.
Adeline joined Mercer in Hong Kong after gaining 12 years of consulting experience at Watson Wyatt (now Willis Towers Watson). She began her career advising large UK pension schemes on the funding and risk management of their liabilities. In 2007, she was seconded to the Shanghai office of the same firm, gaining experience in the region. In 2008, she returned to the UK to specialize in long-term investment strategy development, asset-liability studies, dynamic de-risking and portfolio construction matters. She then focused on delivering whole-fund investment solutions to clients that opted to delegate a greater part of their investment processes.
Adeline is a graduate of the Business School at the University of Warwick in the UK and is a Fellow of the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
Richard is a member of Mercer’s Wealth business team, based in Hong Kong. He leads and supports portfolio advisory engagements with institutional clients throughout Asia involving public and private market investments.
Richard has more than two decades of financial services experience focused on private markets investing, consulting and public markets research.
Prior to working for Mercer, he was Willis Towers Watson’s (WTW’s) Head of Research for Asia. He led WTW’s private and public market investments research and business in the region. Prior to WTW, Richard was a founding team member and an investment director of Hong Kong-based Squadron Capital Advisors, a Pan Asian-focused funds-of-private-equity-funds platform investing third-party capital across the region.
Richard holds an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, a Master of Commerce from Macquarie University in Australia and a Bachelor of Commerce from the Australian National University.
Senior Investment Consultant
Serene is a principal in Mercer's Wealth business in Singapore. She advises clients on a wide range of issues, including investment strategy, manager selection and performance, and manager monitoring. She also contributes actively to Mercer's manager research program.
Serene joined Mercer in October 2007. Prior to that, she was the CEO of ING Investment Management Asia Pacific (Singapore) Ltd. She has more than 12 years of experience in the fund management industry and is experienced in fund management, business development and client servicing. Serene started her career in fund management with UOB Asset Management Singapore Ltd. in 1995 as an investment analyst. She joined ING in 1997 as a fund manager in Japanese and Korean equities before being promoted to CEO in 2003.
She obtained her bachelor of accountancy from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 1994. She has been a CFA since 1998.
Global Strategic Research Director
Nick is a partner in Mercer’s Institutional Wealth practice and is the Global Strategic Research Director as well as a member of the Global Policy Committee. He is responsible for house views on multi-asset-class research and portfolio construction along with the development of the strategic research agenda. Nick’s role extends to covering strategic policy decisions for the suite of Mercer funds in the Pacific market. This aspect of his role formally links Mercer’s strategic best ideas and forward-thinking research to building discretionary portfolios, ensuring Mercer’s best ideas are mapped to all client advice and funds. He is based in Sydney, Australia.
Prior to joining Mercer in January 2006, Nick gained 13 years of experience with Aon Consulting, where he filled a number of roles, most recently as Head of Manager Research and previously as Head of Client Consulting, both in Sydney. Before coming to Australia from the UK with Aon in 2004, he was a senior consultant with primary responsibility for asset-liability-modelling projects.
Nick holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Wadham College, University of Oxford, in the UK. He is also a Fellow of the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
Asset Class Specialist, Diversifying Alternatives Boutique
Adrian conducts research on Asia-based hedge funds from Mercer’s Hong Kong office. He joined Mercer in April 2017.
Prior to joining Mercer, Adrian accumulated close to nine years of experience in the hedge fund industry while based in London. This included nearly four years at Man Group, where he worked as a senior investment analyst. In 2010, he moved to Cambridge Associates, where he led the firm’s European hedge fund research effort for close to five years. Adrian was responsible for sourcing, selecting and monitoring of best-in-class hedge funds in the region. He built strong relationships with funds across a variety of styles, strategies and geographies. In mid-2015, Adrian embarked on a gap year before joining a small Hong Kong-based private equity fund in October 2016. There, he conducted company and sector research on consumer-focused businesses in Asia.
Adrian has a master’s degree in finance and management from Keele University in the UK and is a CFA® charterholder and holds the Certified Investment Analyst℠ designation from the Investment Management Consultants Association.
