Global HR Virtual Conference
On Tuesday, 17 November, Mercer’s 2020 Global Virtual HR Conference welcomed HR leaders over the course of 18 hours from Asia-Pacific, EMEA, North America and Latin America.
Under the theme Building the New Shape of Work, more than 40 speakers provided insights into reinventing for the future with an eye towards value, flexibility and sustainability, including practical advice on building agile, responsible, cost-effective and future-driven organizations.
The conference kicked off in Asia, with Mercer’s Puneet Swani, Career Business Leader for the International Region, hosting a thought-provoking session on designing the new shape of work. This discussion set the scene for a series of breakout sessions and country deep dives, enabling our delegates to engage in action-oriented discussions informed by the latest market trends and data. Experian and IBM guest speakers took the floor, shared their future-ready talent agendas, and discussed how they prepared for the digital age and accelerated HR digital transformation. Lewis Garrad moderated an informative panel with CBRE, DBS Bank and Mercer’s Kate Bravery on innovative workforce practices that inspire.
We then moved swiftly to EMEA, where our keynote speaker, Anne Lise Kjaer, provided an intriguing address on sustainably navigating today’s liquid society. Next up was an enlightening session on compensation trends in EMEA, which delivered the latest industry insights from across the region. This session fed nicely into the breakout and deep-dive sessions later in the day, where participants could explore compensation trends and implications for employers and employees in various parts of the world. We then heard from Novartis and Shell on how balancing choice with responsibility allows for distributed working and how to move forward at pace with society’s ambition by linking remuneration to transition goals.
Topping off a series of exciting plenaries and breakouts in EMEA, a fascinating panel including Brush, and Just Eat Takeaway discussed how organisations can adapt to new business realities while energizing the employee experience by focusing on what people truly value.
Rounding out our virtual conference in North America and Latin America, Elanco talked about its compensation journey, sharing learnings and experiences gained along the way. The plenaries and breakouts for the Americas examined how to build a cost-effective, agile and future-driven organisation, total rewards optimisation through employee engagement and reinventing talent evaluation.
The conference also offered a variety of digital networking opportunities to participants, who greatly enjoyed the more informal virtual coffee sessions hosted by Mercer consultants on various topics of interest.
