Peru requires life insurance, stronger workplace safety rules

Connecticut Enacts Paid Family and Medical Leave

Employers in Peru must enroll all employees in a life insurance policy from the start of their employment, under changes to the life insurance law and general law on labor inspection included in an emergency decree (Spanish).

Under the old law, employers had to provide employees with life insurance coverage after four years of service. A supreme decree could allow employers to phase-in coverage for certain employees.

The labor inspection provisions — effective in January 2020 — strengthen the applicable sanctions for breaches of workplace safety and health standards, including the possibility of criminal penalties and closure of the workplace.
