Mercer announced today that it has named Sandy McCarthy as its Benefits Administration Leader, effective November 1. As a Senior Partner of the firm, she will report to Pat Milligan, Mercer’s North America Region Leader, and Ken Haderer, Mercer’s Chief Operating Officer. She will be based in Norwood, MA.
Ms. McCarthy joined Mercer in 2009 as Retirement Business Leader for its US Benefits Administration Business. Most recently, she was a Global Client Manager, responsible for leading and driving strategic initiatives and building innovative solutions to support the benefits needs of large, multinational clients. From 2010 until 2012, Ms. McCarthy was based in Melbourne as Mercer’s Benefits Administration Business Leader for Asia Pacific. In addition to leading a workforce of 1,400 colleagues representing 450 clients and 1.2 million members, Ms. McCarthy achieved significant improvements in growth, profitability, and client service quality in the Asia Pacific region.

Ms. McCarthy has more than 30 years of executive and international business experience. Prior to joining Mercer, she was the President of ING Institutional Plan Services, where she was responsible for benefits administration services for government and large corporate clients. Ms. McCarthy was also a member of the founding executive team of CitiStreet, serving as President and member of the Board of Directors at the time of its acquisition by ING. Prior to CitiStreet, she held senior executive positions at several financial services institutions including State Street Global Advisors and Fidelity Investments. She began her career with Bank of America.
Ms. McCarthy holds Bachelor and Master degrees from Tufts University and an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
