Mercer, a global consulting leader in advancing health, wealth, and careers, has launched Mercer Career View, a first-of-its-kind career management and planning app. This mobile app is a valuable tool that enables employees to explore career paths with their current employer. By knowing the competencies necessary for their function as well as for other roles across the organization, employees can be successful in their present role or in a desired future role.

“Mercer Career View is a win for employers and their employees,” said Antonio Poglianich, Mercer’s Communication Practice Co-Leader. “A lot of people find it easier to look outside rather than inside their current employer to find jobs that appeal to their career interests. Mercer Career View changes that dynamic by creating a delightful and compelling experience for employees, while allowing employers to grow their own active labor market.”

Mercer Career View enables employees to explore roles across an organization’s job functions, assess their competencies against the requirements of the role, and model career paths to discuss with their manager. “Too often this invaluable information is buried in a company’s intranet or worse, sits in three-ring binders on company bookshelves and never makes its way to the end user – employees,” said Mr. Poglianich.

Developed as a mobile first solution for smart phones, tablets, and desktops, Mercer Career View makes it easy for employees to determine the skills and expertise needed to be successful in other functions across the organization (see Figure 1). In addition to providing employees with essential information to make sound decisions about their career progression, it can feature short video clips of colleagues discussing their jobs with an invitation to contact them should the role be of interest to other employees as they map their career paths.

“Organizations develop career frameworks to better understand their workforce composition in relation to their business needs by identifying what skills are needed for specific roles,” said Mary Ann Sardone, Mercer’s North America Workforce Rewards Leader. “Mercer Career View is an employee-centric solution for them to share this information in a user-friendly app while enabling workforce agility, driving employee engagement, and ultimately reducing costs associated with turnover.”
