  • Richard Smith-Bingham

    Richard Smith-Bingham

    Executive Director, Insights, Marsh & McLennan Advantage

    Richard is a director in Marsh & McLennan Companies’ Global Risk Center. Based in London, he explores complex risk issues that are reshaping industries, economies, and societies, as well as the associated risk governance and risk management implications. He moved to this role from the strategy consulting firm Oliver Wyman, where he advised large (often commodity-intensive) corporations from a range of sectors on how to negotiate the interface between strategy and risk and manage future earnings volatility.

    Richard has published on topics such as emerging risks, energy sector challenges, corporate risk appetite, reputation risk, and risk culture. He is on the Advisory Board of the World Economic Forum Global Risks reports and is a member of the Steering Group of the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development’s High-Level Risk Forum. He is also on the editorial board of BRINK, a digital content platform that convenes the perspectives of leaders on emerging global risks.

    Earlier in his career, Richard was the head of Policy and Research at NESTA, focused on galvanising innovation in the UK. He has a PhD in English literature from University College London and a bachelor’s degree from Oxford University.

  • Anthony Brown

    Anthony Brown

    US Director of Capital Markets

    Anthony is a partner and serves as the US Director of Capital Markets for Mercer’s US Wealth business. He leads the US capital market assumptions-setting process and the US dynamic asset allocation efforts, and he is responsible for generating investment strategy research. In addition, he is the portfolio manager for a fund offered by Mercer Global Investments. Anthony serves on a number of Mercer’s global investment strategy groups. These include the Global Strategic Research Committee, which sets Mercer’s firm-wide investment strategy advice, and the Global Dynamic Asset Allocation Committee.

    Anthony joined Mercer with the acquisition of Hammond Associates in 2011. He joined Hammond Associates in 1996 and served as the firm’s Chief Investment Officer. He was primarily responsible for developing and maintaining the firm’s asset allocation models, assisting clients with investment strategy and preparing the firm’s quarterly research report.

    Anthony has a bachelor’s degree in finance with a minor in economics from the University of Missouri. He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of both the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of St. Louis.

    Asset Class Specialist, Equity Boutique

    Sean is Head of Manager Research in Mercer’s Chicago office. Sean’s responsibilities include coordinating the Manager Research Teams in Chicago across the boutiques and representing the group to consultants, clients and senior management in the US.

    Concurrently, Sean is responsible for all equity research in North America, is a voting member of the US Equity Ratings Review Committee and is a voting member of the US Delegated Defined Contribution Solutions Team. As a principal and a senior member of the Manager Research Group in the Chicago office, he oversees primary research on numerous equity investment managers across various investment strategies.

    Sean has more than 20 years of experience in the investment industry. Prior to joining Mercer in 2010, Sean worked as a buy-side equity research analyst at Neuberger Berman LLC and spent more than a decade performing fundamental research analysis. This included equity research experience as a buy-side and sell-side analyst as well as serving as a senior associate in the high-yield corporate finance group at Moody’s Investors Service.

    Sean holds an MBA from Villanova University in Villanova, Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island. He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA Society of Chicago and the CFA Institute.

  • Deb Clarke

    Deb Clarke

    Global Head of Investment Research

    Deb is a senior partner in Mercer’s Wealth business. In her role as Global Head of Investment Research, which includes responsibility for manager research and strategic research, Deb manages a group of more than 100 asset-class specialists across alternatives, fixed income, equities and real estate. She also oversees the teams responsible for strategic asset allocation, dynamic asset allocation, strategic research and responsible investing. These teams work together to support Mercer’s full range of client solutions, from advisory to fiduciary management. Deb is based in London, UK.

    Deb was previously the Global Leader of Mercer’s Equity Boutique, specializing in researching global equity and global emerging market equity managers. Deb chairs Mercer’s Global Policy Committee and is a member of the Mainstream Assets Global Investment Committee.

    Deb joined Mercer in November 2005 from Watson Wyatt, where she was a senior investment consultant advising a range of clients and researching Asian and emerging market equity managers. Prior to this, Deb was a fund manager for 20 years, most recently working for Friends Ivory & Sime as Head of Equities.

    Deb holds a bachelor’s degree (with honours) in business studies from the University of Plymouth in the UK and is an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK. Deb received the 2016 Distinguished Woman Investment Professional of the Year award.

  • Jennifer Flodin

    Jennifer Flodin

    Senior Investment Consultant

    With more than 25 years of industry experience, Jennifer comes to Mercer as a partner after co-leading Pavilion’s Defined Contribution Consulting practice. In her role at Pavilion, Jennifer was responsible for developing its strategy and service offering to the firm’s largest defined contribution plan sponsors, with the goal of helping improve participant outcomes and reducing fiduciary risk.

    Prior to joining Pavilion, she was a co-founder of Plan Sponsor Advisors, a boutique retirement benefits consulting firm, where she led the Benefits Consulting Services Team.

    Jennifer frequently speaks at industry conferences, including those hosted by Pensions & Investments and Institutional Investor. She is frequently quoted in the business media, including Pensions & Investments, Crain’s Chicago Business, Institutional Investor and InvestmentNews.

    Jennifer is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater. She is also a member of the Defined Contribution Institutional Investment Association and a member of both the JP Morgan DC Advisory Council and the Prudential Financial Advisory Council. Jennifer currently serves on the board of directors for a nonprofit domestic violence organization.
