IAS 19 - Changes and implications for Defined Benefits plans
Mercer Webcast
14 June 2012 - IAS 19, which applies to the way companies have to recognise employee benefits in their financial statements, has been revised and, in most jurisdictions, the revisions will apply to accounting years starting on or after 1 January 2013. During the second quarter of 2012, the European Commission (EC) is expected to endorse the revised IAS 19 standard, at which point it will be clear that it will also apply to companies listed on EU stock exchanges. The amendments require immediate recognition of any accrued liabilities in relation to employee benefits, will increase comparability between organisations and make the risk exposure of companies sponsoring defined benefit pension plans clearer. As a result the revisions to IAS 19 will bring risk management of defined benefit plans into increasing focus.
