Mercer, a leading global provider of consulting, outsourcing and investments, announced today that it has named Mike Ponicall as Michigan Market Leader, effective September 1, 2009. In this role, Mr. Ponicall will be responsible for driving revenue growth and coordinating all client activities in support of the various Mercer business lines. He will report to Sue Gilbert, Mercer’s Great Lakes Market Leader, and will be based in Detroit, Michigan.  Mercer has a large presence in Michigan, with offices in both Detroit and Grand Rapids and clients based throughout the state.

Mr. Ponicall joins Mercer with nearly 40 years of international human resource consulting leadership experience, having most recently served as Managing Director for Towers Perrin (the firm from which he retired in 2006).  In this position, he held a key market leadership role with oversight for all Towers Perrin worldwide. During this period, he had particular focus on opening and growing the firm’s presence in China, as well as leading a team that executed a major acquisition in Germany. He also served on the Towers Perrin Board of Directors, Management Committee and Executive Committee. Prior to that, he served as Manager of the Towers Perrin Central Region (US).  Mr. Ponicall began his career at Frank B. Hall & Company, where he held a number of roles of increasing responsibility including Manager, International Benefit Consulting Group. 

Mr. Ponicall holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from Bethany College, Bethany, West Virginia.
