Shams Talib joins Mercer to lead its retirement, risk and finance business in the Pacific Southwest

Shams Talib has joined Mercer’s retirement, risk and finance business as market business leader for the Pacific Southwest. He will be responsible for the performance of the firm’s retirement-related business within the geographic market.

 

Based in Los Angeles, Mr. Talib will serve as a strategic retirement consultant to some of Mercer’s largest clients. As part of his leadership role, Mr. Talib will serve on Mercer’s US Retirement Operating Committee and the Pacific Southwest leadership team. “

Prior to joining Mercer, Mr. Talib served as Principal in the Los Angeles office of Towers Perrin and was one of the firm’s highly regarded thought leaders on retirement risk issues. He was also the relationship manager for a number of key clients. He began his 13 years of service with Towers Perrin in Toronto, Canada where he held several positions of increasing responsibility, most recently as Canadian Retirement Financial Management practice leader.

 

Mr. Talib began his consulting career at Hewitt Associates in Toronto. Mr. Talib is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (SOA), a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary under ERISA, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Chartered Financial Analyst. He is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute and of the Los Angeles Society of Financial Analysts. He is also vice-chairperson of the SOA’s Education and Examination Committee and a past member of the University of Waterloo Actuarial Science Advisory Board. He earned a Bachelor of Mathematics degree in actuarial science and statistics from the University of Waterloo (Ontario, Canada).
