Does Mercer offer internships?

Mercer has a summer intern program. Although we will do some on-campus recruiting for internships in the fall, most of our internship recruiting takes place in January and February. To learn more about and apply for an internship, please visit our Internships page.

What is your campus hiring process?

Mercer recruits on campus at a variety of schools for a variety of opportunities. Please visit our Campus Events page or your career center to see if Mercer is recruiting at your school for your area of interest. Generally, Mercer has a two-round interview process, though this may vary slightly. The first step is an on-campus interview or over the phone. The second round is an in-office interview day, which can range from a half-day to a full day. During this time, you will have the opportunity to talk to several Mercer colleagues, learn more about Mercer and our business, and to share your experiences with us. Most programs include discussions or luncheons with peer group employees. We target to make job offer decisions within a few weeks after the in-office interview. We endeavor to have ongoing communication with the student if circumstances delay our decision.

Mercer recruits at my campus, but not for the job I’m interested in. Should I sign up for a campus interview anyway?

Signing up for an interview with another group “just to talk to someone” is not the best use of your time. Interviewers from one line of business cannot make hiring decisions for another group. We recommend that you approach our team at a career fair, presentation, or other event to get a feel for the Mercer culture, and then submit a resume online at www.mercer.com/college for the group and opportunity that are of primary interest. for the group and opportunity that are of primary interest.

Mercer doesn’t recruit on my campus. What is the best way to express interest?

Please visit the Apply Online page to submit a profile and resume online for the position of interest. You will be asked your location preferences during the application process. A Mercer college recruiter will review your resume within 4 weeks. If your qualifications, background, and interests are a fit, we will direct your resume to the hiring team for the office that you choose. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by a Mercer representative.

Will my application/profile be shared with Mercer’s affiliated companies (Marsh, Kroll, Guy Carpenter)?

No. While our companies work closely together, we don't have a centralized recruiting function. Our businesses are quite different and the skill sets of the candidates we each seek reflect those differences. Mercer provides consulting, outsourcing and investing solutions to major clients around the globe. If you are interested in opportunities at Mercer, see our Apply Online page to apply online. If you are interested in opportunities with one of our sister companies, please visit http://www.mmc.com/ and visit the careers section or the company links section to learn more about our sister companies and their career opportunities.

I am interested in more than one opportunity. May I be considered for multiple programs openings?

We are pleased that many students find features of more than one college recruiting opportunity. We encourage students to investigate whichever programs they find of interest. Following initial interviews, it is our policy to conduct second-round interviews and subsequent decision-making for only one Mercer opportunity/line of business at a time for a given candidate.

Where do you have office locations?

Mercer is a global firm and we have offices in cities around the world. To see more detailed information on some of our offices, please visit our Office Profiles page or for a full list of addresses visit our Office Locations page.

What is it like to work at Mercer?

Mercer is a firm of people in the people business linked through shared values. Of course, actual work experiences vary from office to office, as each location tends to have its own personality. But typically, it's a stimulating environment where people are committed, energized and anxious to be first with new solutions for our clients. We have fun, work hard, and find satisfaction in what we do. We like to share our talents with our communities and to ensure that our personal interests and our families are always a top priority. Mercer has also adopted a year-round “Appropriate Dress” policy. This policy is designed to allow you to select between Business Casual Dress or Business Dress; whichever is appropriate for your work on a given day. To hear more about what it's like to work with us, visit the Meet Our People page.

How much travel should I expect as an entry level analyst?

Mercer employees do not travel as regularly as other consultants might. A four day travel week is not the norm. Your travel schedule will depend on your client projects and commitments though most travel is done regionally and is not routine. This allows for consultants and analysts to spend more time in the office and aids in building a more defined culture of teamwork and fun!

How many hours in an average work week?

An average work week is again dependent on client projects and commitments, but the average is around 45-50hrs. Some weeks will be longer and some shorter. Mercer allows flexibility as long as your client work is completed as necessary.

How is compensation determined at Mercer?

We do not discuss salary until a job offer is made. Our salaries are competitive in the market. Hiring bonuses may or may not be offered, depending on the hiring program and market conditions

Does Mercer provide support for ongoing education and development?

At Mercer, we strive to develop our business while also developing our people. We are committed to providing the tools and resources our employees need to learn, develop, and succeed. This ongoing development allows employees to grow professionally and technically, which prepares them to do the best work for Mercer’s clients. Mercer can support you with the tools and education you need to keep advancing. More information on learning and development can be found here.

I am an international student. In conjunction with my visa, do you provide practical training or H1-B employment opportunities?

Due to the nature of our college hiring programs, we can only consider and hire students who currently possess authorization to accept employment in the United States. Please note that at this time, the company does not intend to sponsor work visas with respect to these positions. Please consider opportunities with Mercer in the country where you have work authorization. Our global career opportunities are available at www.mercer.com/careers.
