Mercer has won the award for the most innovative development at the annual ESG Leaders Awards. It received this accolade for its environmental, social and governance (ESG) manager research process.

Financial News Investment Consultant of the Year award

Mercer’s investment consulting business has been named European Investment Consultant of the Year by Financial News in the Financial News Awards for Excellence in Institutional Asset Management – Europe 2008. Mercer came out on top for the sixth consecutive year.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of these awards and over 60 pension fund consultants and fund managers from across Europe were asked to vote from a short list of the best-performing investment consultants.

The award recognises the strength of Mercer’s investment services and its large presence in Europe. Over the last 12 months the firm has announced a number of important new hires and further developed its offering in implemented consulting. Mercer’s Financial Strategy Group and the Mercer Sentinel® Group have guided an increasing number of clients through risk and back-office operations reviews - both highly pertinent in the current economic climate.

IPE Real Estate Awards

Mercer has won a gold award for investment consultancy at the 2008 IPE Real Estate Awards for the second time in three years.

Mercer was voted by the IPE Real Estate readers across Europe, which has more than 14,000 readers, mainly from pension funds.

Greg Wright, principal in Mercer’s investment consulting business and head of the specialist property research team, said: “This award reflects the industry’s confidence in our European real estate research and the range of options we are presenting to our clients. We are delighted to be voted best in our field. We will continue to invest in our team and investigate a wide range of opportunities for our clients.”

In 2007, Mercer carried out more than 60 real estate searches globally for its clients, up from 50 in 2006 and 35 in 2005.

According to Mercer’s latest asset allocation survey, around 5% of pension scheme assets are invested in real estate, although figures are much higher in countries such as Switzerland and Sweden (15% and 10%, respectively).
