Mercer has been named Asset Managing Investment Consultant of the Year at the Financial News Awards for Excellence in Institutional Asset Management Europe 2011. The Financial News specialist asset management editorial team selected lists of nominees for all 28 award categories. The final winners were subsequently chosen by a panel of over 109 judges including consultants, fund management executives and marketers from across Europe. Mercer was named winner in a new category that replaces the now defunct category, "Global Investment Consultant of the Year", for which Mercer was named winner in the last eight years.
The award recognises the strength of Mercer’s investment advisory and implemented offerings, as well as its global footprint. Over the last 12 months, the firm has won 211 new business clients globally. Special mention was given to the firm’s recent innovative developments, including the Mercer Workplace Savings solution for defined contribution pension schemes and Mercer’s Dynamic De-risking Solution designed to help defined benefit pension schemes cope with their funding arrangements and underlying investment strategy.
Tom Geraghty, Head of Mercer’s Investment Consulting business in Europe, Middle East and Africa, said: “While we are not in the business to win accolades, it is particularly pleasing to be recognised by our peers and the industry at large for our sustained market leading position. The award reflects the quality of our talent, intellectual capital and innovative solutions, and speaks to the strength of our full service investment proposition as we adapt to the dynamic and complex needs of the market.”
Michael Dempsey, European Head of Mercer’s Investment Management business, added: “It is particularly pleasing to have our full range of traditional and implemented consulting capabilities recognised in this new award category. A full suite of investment solutions has become essential to support clients and the wider marketplace in navigating an increasingly complex investment environment.”
William Hutchings, Asset Management Editor of Financial News, said: “Mercer did well to win the new category of ‘Asset Managing Investment Consultant of the Year’. The judges gave it an average score of 3.36 out of five, which is a high score. Winning the award is a pure reflection of the investment industry’s opinion.”
