Managing pension risk: Global perspectives, approaches in action

Managing and monitoring pension risk is top of mind for many CFOs and Risk Managers. In this session, a panel of client experts will discuss how they manage pension risks globally from headquarters. We’ll talk about Value at Risk (VaR) and other approaches to managing and monitoring pension risk across borders, sharing case studies of how these approaches are working at multinational companies.

Panelists: Flavio Costa, Sara Lee Corporation and Richard Obetz, IKON Office Solutions

Moderator: Robert Moreen (Mercer)

A new look at global DC: New opportunities, lessons learned

In many regions, the DC plan has become the primary retirement program, shifting much of the risk of providing retirement income from the plan sponsor to employees. However, a hands-off approach to managing DC plans across the globe may mean you’ll miss opportunities to align the DC programs with corporate objectives and manage DC vendors. This could expose the organization to operational and compliance risk. In this session, client speakers will share case studies of global DC plan management.

Speakers: Barbara Marder (Mercer) along with Mark Breer, Microsoft Corporation and Daniel McCarthy, Bloomberg L.P.

Global retirement design: An innovative future?

In both mature and developing countries, retirement programs are experiencing a significant transformation. Changes are being driven by new legislation, accounting convergence, shifts in social insurance, and market/economic conditions. In this session, we’ll describe innovative design ideas from various countries recently implemented or in the “think tank” stage.

Speakers: Noam Lakser (Mercer) and Craig Cohen, Pfizer, Inc.

De-risking your pension plans: What makes sense for your organization?

iBanks, fund managers and traditional consultants are flooding the market with new products and solutions to de-risk pension plans: from interest rate and longevity swaps to custom liability-driven investment solutions (with or without pre-packaged alpha) to online pension buyout auctions. In this session we’ll help you sort through these approaches and suggest what might be right for your organization’s pension plans. We’ll also suggest financial management governance practices to manage and monitor these new approaches to managing risk.

Speakers: Adrian Hartshorn (Mercer) and Bob Burke (Mercer)
